reminder about the macs

Quick reminder about the Teen Mac Lab...  These computers are for teens with cards in good standing (fines below $2.00).  If a teen needs to use a computer but has fines exceeding $2.00, he or she must pay $1.00 and obtain a guest pass for the adult computer lab (if fines still exceed $2).

updated computer policy at HQ

From Melody--
Greetings! The Management Team has discussed the fact that there are times now when many computers are available and persons who would like more time don’t have that option.

Beginning today the two hour time limit for computer use at Headquarters has been removed. This change brings all locations under the same guidelines for computer use.

The patron’s first session consists of 60 minutes. When that time is close to being exhausted, the patron is given the option to extend their time in increments of 15 minutes.

This allows others who want to use computers to make reservations without having significant wait times, as any computer that had been used by one person more than an hour would be available in fifteen minutes or less.

In order for this to work, patrons should extend the time themselves; staff should not extend time for them. The exceptions would be a class or a job application that the patron needed more than an additional fifteen minutes to complete.

Thanks for your help in educating our patrons about this change by letting them know that they can extend their time on their own and that we have removed the two hour time limit for computer use. And thanks to Edward for working with IT to accomplish this.

Thanks, everyone. Melody

family computer labs

ROWAN PUBLIC LIBRARY FAMILY COMPUTER LAB PROCEDURES

The Rowan Public Library aims to provide computer access to all of its patrons.  For this reason the branches have been equipped with Family Computer Labs in the Children’s area.  These computers are primarily for children ages 15 and younger and parents of children 8 years or under.

  1. To help ensure that a child will have a pleasant and safe experience while visiting the library, Children 8 years of age or younger shall be “attended” while in the library (See Unattended Children’s Policy).  This parent or caretaker is responsible for the behavior of the child in his/her care while in the library.

  2. All children 11 years or younger must use the computers in the Family Lab.
  3. Children ages 12-15 may use the computers in the Adult Lab, MAC Lab or the Family Lab.
  4. Parents or the responsible party 16 years of age or older of children 8 years and younger who need to be attended while in the library will be allowed to use the computers in the Family Lab.
  5. If an adult or person over 16 years of age does not have a child 8 years or younger with them, they will not be allowed to use the computers in the Family Lab and must use the designated computers in the Adult area.

IT has completed updates in the labs, so the public labs at all three branches should be upgraded to Microsoft Office 2007.  Microsoft has free training available for PowerPoint 2007, Word 2007, and Excel 2007.
