mr. penumbra display
A big thank you to Bev Griffith for putting together a remarkable bulletin board at HQ to help advertise our 411 Community Read events. She made this display really come to life using 3-D elements such as book spines out of foam board, a handmade magnifying glass, and fake books with program details inside. Excellent job, BG2!

Quick reminder about the Teen Mac Lab... These computers are for teens with cards in good standing (fines below $2.00). If a teen needs to use a computer but has fines exceeding $2.00, he or she must pay $1.00 and obtain a guest pass for the adult computer lab (if fines still exceed $2).

film festival and spa nights
Here are a few photos from our Classic Chicks Film Festival & Spa Nights at HQ (02/11) and South (02/17). Many thanks to all of the hands that went into preparing food, setting up chairs, heating up water, pampering our patrons, and cleaning up! As a result of these programs, we had several patrons sign up for other events such as Boost Your Mood (next Monday) and Paul's Computer Basics class later this week.

the white house gets creative
Handmade is the trend right now, and the White House is getting in on the action! President Obama announced that the White House is planning to hold a Maker Faire later this year, the first ever at 1600 Penn. A Maker Faire is an event created by Make Magazine to "celebrate arts, crafts, engineering, science projects, and the Do-It-Yourself mindset" (Wikipedia). Many libraries have Maker Spaces (yep, you guessed it--spaces where you can make stuff), and some even have mini- Maker Faires already (wouldn't that be awesome here in Rowan County?). Read more about this new trend here on InfoDocket.
