copies of salisbury life

If anyone has an extra copy of last month's Salisbury Life magazine (free publication mailed out to residents in Salisbury), please give to Melody.  It featured an article about Jennifer Loflin's art program at Rowan Public Library.

A photograph of John Tucker's son, Zach, was featured prominently in an article about getting a well-rounded education in the most recent edition of Salisbury Life.

obituary for stamey shoemaker

FAITH - Mr. Stamey Clyde Shoemaker, 75, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 at his home, after courageously battling esophageal cancer for almost three years.

The son of the late William Clyde and Elizabeth Brown Shoemaker, Stamey was born June 2, 1938 in Forsyth County. He was a 1956 graduate of Statesville High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1962-1964.

He worked at the Salisbury Post Office as a city carrier from September 1968 until July 1998. After being retired for six years, he was employed part-time with the Rowan County Library for nine years when he had to retire December 2012 due to complications of pneumonia.

He was a avid reader and also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and attending American Legion Baseball games.

Stamey was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all.

In addition to his parents, Stamey was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Shoemaker on Jan. 20, 2001.

Stamey is survived his wife, Charlene Jones Shoemaker, whom he married June 28, 1967; son, Neil Shoemaker and wife Wendie; grandchildren, Hannah and Ben Shoemaker, Katrina Coble, Tawny Brazeel, Cody Brazeel; great-grandchildren, Kacyn Shoemaker, Riley Cavin, Maddie Hughes, Jakob Hughes, Jaxon Brazeel; brothers-in- law, Wayne Jones and wife Phyllis and Woody Jones and wife Martha; sister-in-law, Grace Anderson; and special friends, Ray and Patty Leazer.

family computer labs

ROWAN PUBLIC LIBRARY FAMILY COMPUTER LAB PROCEDURES

The Rowan Public Library aims to provide computer access to all of its patrons.  For this reason the branches have been equipped with Family Computer Labs in the Children’s area.  These computers are primarily for children ages 15 and younger and parents of children 8 years or under.

  1. To help ensure that a child will have a pleasant and safe experience while visiting the library, Children 8 years of age or younger shall be “attended” while in the library (See Unattended Children’s Policy).  This parent or caretaker is responsible for the behavior of the child in his/her care while in the library.

  2. All children 11 years or younger must use the computers in the Family Lab.
  3. Children ages 12-15 may use the computers in the Adult Lab, MAC Lab or the Family Lab.
  4. Parents or the responsible party 16 years of age or older of children 8 years and younger who need to be attended while in the library will be allowed to use the computers in the Family Lab.
  5. If an adult or person over 16 years of age does not have a child 8 years or younger with them, they will not be allowed to use the computers in the Family Lab and must use the designated computers in the Adult area.

Please remember that if a patron hands you a torn bill – DO NOT ACCEPT IT!  I have a 5 dollar bill that is only 2/3rd complete.
Thanks!
