telecommunications issues

Windstream is experiencing a large outage affecting long distance calls for us at this time.  Please do not open work orders or tickets with Telecommunications or the Information Systems Department concerning this matter.  They hope to have this issue repaired as soon as possible.

The following are interruptions of service that the library can expect this Wednesday and Thursday as part of an upcoming telephone system upgrade:

Wednesday, May 1st
  • We may lose some fax and alarm lines from 3-4 pm.  Office phones should not be affected.
  • ALL county phones will go down at 5:15 pm for approximately one hour.

Thursday, May 22nd
  • ALL voicemail will go down at 5:15 for about one hour while the Admin Building is being upgraded.

scrabble scramble

The Rowan County Literacy Council’s 10th Annual Scrabble Scramble is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. The evening includes a meal and three rounds of team Scrabble.  The Friends are willing to sponsor 2 teams of 10 players from staff and friends this year (they’ve previously sponsored one).

PLAYERS ARE NEEDED FOR THE FRIENDS TEAM!
If you would like to participate, please contact Beverly Gaston.  Please spread the word about the Scramble to friends and ask them to consider getting tickets to play—the event is $30 per person. (Staff and Friends who play on the Friends’ team(s) have their tickets paid by the Friends.)

a BIG THANK YOU to all

I found this e-mail hanging out in my “drafts” folder awaiting a final head count for the programs.  Sorry I missed putting this in News & Notes, but I wanted to give credit to everyone who had a hand in making these programs happen.  : )

Thanks,

April

Money $mart Week
A big thank you to all staff for helping promote our programs for Money Smart Week 2013.  We had over 100 participants in our programs ranging from recycled crafts to gardening on a budget.  A special thank you to Tara for helping set up; Dennis for helping tear down; and Gretchen, Melody, and Pat T. for all of their help in between!  I also appreciate the lovely staff donations for the Swap Shop.  Things are always better when we work together!

april 16th is national library worker day

April 16th is National Library Worker Day, a time to celebrate our wonderful library staffers!  Patrons and co-workers can submit a star to honor library workers who they believe go above and beyond the call of duty.  The tagline from APA is, "Libraries work because we do!"  Many thanks to all of the staff at RPL for making this such a great library system!

where did all my programs go (UPDATED)

If you log in to Citrix and notice that only half of your programs are showing up, here's the new way to refresh your desktop (an updated version of this previous tutorial):

Step 1:  Locate your "Citrix Receiver" icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Step 2:  Right click on the icon and select "About" from the menu.

Step 3:  In the window that pops up, click the down-arrow next to "Advanced"and choose "Online Plug-in Settings".

Step 4:  Select "Refresh Applications" from the menu.

Hopefully all of your icons will pop up on the desktop again.
